Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) results from overgrowth of one of several organisms that are normally present in vagina. Having several sex partners or a new sex partner increases rick for BV. Women who have sex with women are at higher risk. More than 1 in 6 women in the US has BV, though many show no signs or symtpoms and are therefore unaware. Signs and symptoms of BV incluse thin, gray, white or green vaginal discharge, foul smelling odor, vaginal itching and burning during urination. Douching as well as bubble baths also increase risk. BV does not usually lead to serious complications though it can make those infected more suseptible to other STI's. Males do not typically need to be treated if their female partners are diagnosed with BV. Treatment can either be an antibiotic taken orally or in a cream.
