1). Public Service Advertisement for Pregnancy Prevention (25 pts)
** This is a group project; maximum of 4 people in a group
Your Task: Create an advertisement for a contraceptive product. This should be a one-page ad that could appear in a newspaper or magazine. Use your creative thinking skills and utilize information provided on our website and through research to provide factual, educational information.
Your ad must include:
2). **Watch Nova’s Life’s Greatest Miracle and complete the corresponding worksheet. (In Class) (15 pts)
3). Create a Kahoot or Quizlet with a minimum of 25 questions to be shared with the class (25 pts)
4). Create an informative Power Point with a minimum of 10 slides on one of the following topics: Pregnancy, Pregnancy Prevention or STI’s (20 pts)
5). Create a story book (with illustrations) showing the process of reproduction. (25 pts)
This may be a group project if desired
6). Create an animoto (animoto.com) on either pregnancy or STI prevention (20 pts)
7). Create a “Life’s Little Instruction book” on how to remain (with illustration) STI free (25 pts)

8). Attend a Rainbow Alliance meeting and conduct an interview regarding the group’s objectives. Write a well-constructed 5 paragraph paper describing what you learned. Attach the interview questionnaire (25 pts)

- In your opinion, do media (movies, television shows) help promote or prevent teen pregnancy? (50 pts)
- Research teen pregnancy rates in the US in the past decade and summarize the data. Explain what factors may have contributed to the trend you find and what you think we could do to decrease the number of teen pregnancies. (50 pts)
- Why do many teens find it difficult to talk about STIs with a partner, a parent, or a doctor? What are possible consequences of avoiding these talks? Who/where could you go to for resources or help instead? (50 pts)
- You are a high school counselor. A student comes into your office having trouble. She is concerned that she is pregnant and doesn’t know what to do. She states that she “cannot talk to her parents.” She has no transportation and is a freshman.
- Create a dialogue that you would have with the student. Be sure to use and explain options, state/school laws and ways she can receive help.
- Although anyone who is sexually active can get an STI, certain behaviors can put people at a higher risk. What are they? What are some behaviors that can reduce the risk? What is the only behavior that can eliminate the risk? (50 pts)
- Is being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender a choice or are people born that way (nature vs. nurture)? Research both sides of the argument and then explain your findings in own words. Include a minimum of 5 debated subjects. ** This is NOT an opinion based essay**(50 pts)
- Identify 3 myths about STI’s and explain why they are not true. Find 2 research or journal articles (per myth) that support your statement and provide an annotated bibliography.

Gathering Content:

2). Watch Chasing the Dragon (this will be done in class) and answer the corresponding worksheet questions.
3). Answer the questions on the classroom website for the following pages (mandatory):
4). List 10 ways to discourage teens from all forms of illicit drug use.
5). Find and print (or cut-out) a story from a reliable online source, a magazine or a newspaper detailing how someone’s life was destroyed by drug use. Include a summary of the article.
6). Create a list of 10 illicit drugs and describe them.
7). Create a diagram/picture that explains the short term effects of alcohol on the mouth/throat, esophagus, liver, cells, and the brain.
8). Make a list of 10 places a teen can go for help for drug abuse/addiction.
9). Fill in the drug comparison worksheets (this will be done in class).
10). Create a Venn diagram to compare and contrast tobacco and smokeless tobacco.
11). Research drug use on a local, national and global realm and report your findings in a chart.

1). Create a jeopardy style game with 5 topics (alcohol, vaping, opioids, cannabis, drugs;other) and 5 questions per category for a total of 25 questions (True/False and Yes/No questions are not acceptable). * This may be done in pairs only.
2). Create an informative power point on the dangers of substance abuse.
3). Create an animoto (www.animoto.com) on an illicit substance and present it to the class.
4). Create an electronic story (www.storybird.com) on an illicit substance and present it to the class.
5). Draw and color OR create a picture to express the effects of addiction.

Drug Research Project
For this research-based project, you will be asked to either create a poster, video, power point, or any other creative way to answer the following questions:
You can either work on the project with the person who has the same drug as you, or by yourself. If you choose to work in partners, there will be one grade awarded to both of you regardless of who did the work and their ability to orally present the information; so choose wisely. Each partner is essentially responsible for 6 of the 12 questions listed above. (Together completing all 12 questions)
Bibliography: Minimum of 3web sources & 1 book source (not your health book). All citations must be in MLA format and included as the last PP slide, rolling credits of a video or on the back of the poster board. Copy right and plagiarism laws must be adhered to.
This project is worth 2 exam grades, each worth 44 total points (refer to your attached rubrics)

For this research-based project, you will be asked to either create a poster, video, power point, or any other creative way to answer the following questions:
- What is it (definition, medical class and origin of the drug)? What is the chemical process in the body? (include receptors, neurotransmitters, what it stimulates and what it inhibits to feel euphoria)
- What is the legal class of drugs and what are the laws governing the drug?
- How is it made? (NOT A STEP BY STEP PROCESS!! specific chemicals/grown/man made)
- What are the common names given to the drug? (up to 10 street names)
- How is it taken (the form and method of use) and why do people take it? (route of administration and the “attraction” to abuse it)
- Does it have a medical purpose? (In the US, other country? What is it; was it past, present or future)
- Short term vs. long term effects in the body (immediate effect after taking it vs. long term)
- Is it addictive physically or psychologically? (details, why and how, what are the traits)
- Effects of overdose (symptoms)? In Massachusetts, list the top 10 cities/towns per capita
- Mortality vs. Morbidity (death rate/stats and disease rate/stats; include local, national, global)
- Recovery and withdrawal symptoms (what is the process physically, mentally, emotionally)
- Society’s viewpoint/Famous (celebrity) users (how do people see the drug and those who use it; name a few celebrities known for abusing the drug and society’s opinion)
