Marijuana
Marijuana is a drug made up of dried parts of the Cannabis plant and the active chemical is THC (tetrahydrocannibinol). Marijuana is usually smoked as a cigarette or in a pipe. A number of states allow adults with a doctor’s prescription to legally buy and use marijuana for medical purposes. Side effects of marijuana use are distorted perceptions, poor coordination, difficulty thinking and solving problems, problems with learning and memory, cardiovascular problems, respiratory problems.
Marijuana is the most illegally abused drug in the United States by teens. It is often referred to as the "Gateway' drug because most young people initially experiment with it before trying other types of drugs. Be aware that almost all drug addicts started their journey with "weed" and swore that they would never try anything else. Because marijuana does not usually cause a physical addiction (depending on how often it is used) or cause a direct death, many people believe that it is regarded as safe. However, long term use of marijuana has extreme effects on the structure of the brain and the body. Name 2 potential long term effects! What percentage of people become physically addicted?
In some states Marijuana has become legal either recreationally (in MASSACHUSETTS at age 21) and/or medically. it is believed that in certain cases, marijuana can assist terminal patients with certain symptoms of their illness such as alleviating pain and preventing weight loss. It is NOT, by any means, considered to be an all natural, healthy way by which to live life. Contrary to popular belief, it IS possible to overdose on marijuana. NOTE: Overdose simply means to take in too much for the body to detoxify. It does NOT necessarily mean death, although that can be one of the outcomes of overdose. What are the signs or symptoms associated with a marijuana OD?
